APPLETON, Wis. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team took a trip to Wisconsin for another NCHA conference series against Lawrence University. The Bulldogs and the Vikings opened the series on Friday night where Adrian came away with a 7-2 victory.
Matus Spodniak and
Riley Murphy each recorded hat tricks on the night.
It wasn't long into the game that Adrian jumped out to a 1-0 lead.
Ty Enns found the back of the net on assists from
Chase Spencer and Murphy. Late in the first period, Spodniak scored on a power play to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, Lawrence got on the board to make it 2-1, but Murphy answered shortly after to extend the lead back to two. Halfway through the second period, Lawrence made it a one goal game, but it was all Adrian the rest of the way. With less than three minutes to go, Murphy and Spodniak each scored their second goal of the game to lead 5-2.
It was Spodniak and Murphy again in the third period to lead 7-2 resulting in the final score.
Murphy led the team with four points on three goals and an assist while Spodniak scored three goals and
Jaden Shields tallied three assists.
Alessio Luciani,
Zachary Heintz,
Chase Spencer, and
Jacob Suede each added a pair of assists.
Nic Tallarico started in goal for Adrian on Friday night finishing the day with 16 saves including seven in the second and third period.
Adrian will look to complete the sweep on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 PM EST. against Lawrence.
