UTICA, N.Y. – The Adrian College NCAA women's hockey team opened up the season on the road in the first game of the Utica University Kickoff Tournament. The No. 6 Bulldogs opened up with No. 12 Elmira on Friday night. It took an overtime period to determine a winner where the Bulldogs came ahead, 3-2.
The first period went scoreless for both teams to open the night. Elmira jumped out to a 1-0 lead with 17:30 to go in the second period. The Bulldogs responded on a power play goal ten minutes later from
Maya Roy. With just over four minutes played in the second period, Elmira regained the lead, 2-1. The Elmira transfer,
Courtney Ben, scored the game tying goal for the Bulldogs with under three minutes to play in the regulation to force overtime.
During the overtime period,
Une Bjelland came off the bench on a line change where she found herself wide open on a breakaway to score a win the game 3-2.
Annie Gilbert got the start in goal for the Bulldogs where she faced 29 shots while making 27 saves.
The Bulldogs will play in the championship game of the Utica University Kickoff Tournament tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM against Utica University.
