UTICA, N.Y. – The Adrian College NCAA women's hockey team competed in the championship game of the Utica University Kickoff Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs took on the host, Utica University, where they fell in overtime. The No. 13 Pioneers defeated the No. 6 Bulldogs, 2-1.
Utica jumped on the board first in the first period with the help of a power play goal to lead 1-0. It took until the third period, but Adrian responded with an unassisted goal from
Jocelin Hudanish to tie the game 1-1. Adrian and Utica headed to overtime where the Pioneers scored 12 seconds in to win the game, 2-1.
Adrian finished the game with 45 shots on goal with the help of nine shots on goal from
Maya Roy, seven from
Une Bjelland, and six from
Karmen Anderson.
Michaela O'Brien got the start in goal for Adrian where she finished the afternoon with 13 saves.
The Bulldogs will regroup and open up NCHA conference play at home next weekend when they host Marian University for a two-game series starting Friday night at 7:00 PM.
