UTICA, N.Y. – The No. 2 Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team rematched the No. 6 Utica University Pioneers on Saturday afternoon after finishing last night's game in a 0-0 tie. It took another overtime period to decide a winner, but it was the Pioneers that came ahead. Utica defeated Adrian 3-2 in overtime.
The Bulldogs led 1-0 after the first period after
Mathew Rehding and
Jaden Shields found
Riley Murphy for the opening goal. Utica answered with back-to-back goals in the second period to take a 2-1 lead. In the third period, the Bulldogs were given a 5-minute power play where they took advantage scoring their second power play goal of the game.
Theo Thrun hit
Ryan Pitoscia who passed across ice to
Connor May to tie the game. It didn't take long in the overtime period to decide a winner as the Pioneers scored 48 seconds in to win 3-2.
The Bulldogs finished the game with 29 shots on goal with five coming from
Zachary Heintz and four coming from Rehding.
Dershahn Stewart played in goal for the Bulldogs where he finished the afternoon with 32 saves.
The Bulldogs will open NCHA conference play on the road this weekend when they head to Marian University for a two-game series starting on Friday.
