CHESTERFIELD, MO. -- The No. 4 Adrian College Women's ACHA Division 1 hockey team traveled to Illinois and Missouri this past weekend for a three-game slate against No. 6 McKendree University and No. 3 Maryville University. The Bulldogs finished the weekend with a loss to McKendree and two victories over Maryville.
The Bulldogs and Bearcats went to battle on Friday night in O'Fallon, Illinois in a tight defensive game, but it was the Bearcats who upset the Bulldogs by a score of 2-1. Adrian's
Hailey Wiltshire scored her ninth goal of the season, to open the scoring, on a tally assisted by
Macy Piche and
Tess McKerrow. Unfortunately it was not enough to solve McKendree who followed that up by scoring once in the second period and once in the third period to secure the victory. Goaltender
Chloe Burt made 22 saves on 23 shots for Adrian in the game.
The Bulldogs would then move to Chesterfield, Missouri to take on top-ranked Maryville on Saturday. The Bulldogs came out strong, scoring three goals in the first period thanks to
Tyla Turnbull, Piche, and
Allison Shaw. Maryville would add one in the first period as well, but with a scoreless second and third period, the Bulldogs were able to hold on for the bounce back 3-1 victory. Burt made 21 saves to earn the win in goal.
To close out the weekend, Adrian came out even stronger on Sunday, scoring six unanswered goals to go up 6-0 before Maryville would add one of their own. Goals from
Keira Eagleson, Piche, two from
Rhea Peterson, and singles from
Ashlynn Stitt, and
Mackenzie Parent completed the scoring for the 6-1 win, while Burt, in her third game of the weekend, made 29 saves in her seventh win of the season.
Head Coach
Carter Clarke was happy with what he saw from his team this weekend after dropping the first game, stating
"Friday's game was a little bit of a wake up call for us, we realized that we're going to get everyone's best game as we ran into a very solid McKendree team. We hit the reset button on Saturday and had a meeting about what needed to be changed and I think that really contributed to our performance on Saturday and Sunday. We went out and played to our potential for a couple of statement wins versus the No. 3 team to get us back on track."
The WD1 Bulldogs will be back to work on November 18-19 as they take on Miami University of Ohio in a CCWHA conference home and home series. The Bulldogs and Red Hawks will face off on Saturday at 1:00 PM in Oxford, and then at 4:00 PM on Sunday at the Arrington Ice Arena.
