GENEVA, Ill. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team traveled to Aurora University over the weekend and opened the two-game series on Friday night. The Bulldogs came away with a 3-2 victory over the Spartans to improve to 5-1-1 on the season.
After the first and second period went scoreless, it became an eventful third period with five total goals scored. With just over a minute played in the third,
Zachary Heintz scored to take a 1-0 Adrian lead. Later in the period,
Bradley Somers netted a power play goal to go ahead 2-0. Aurora answered back to cut the Bulldog lead to one, but was answered back by a
Ryan Pitoscia goal to give Adrian a 3-1 lead. With 3:08 remaining in the game, Aurora scored a goal on the power play but couldn't find the back of the net again handing Adrian a 3-2 win.
Heintz had a two-point night with a goal and an assist to inch his way closer to his 100
th career point. Through 89 games in his career, Heintz currently sits with 95 career points.
Dershahn Stewart picked up another win in goal for the Bulldogs after finishing the night with 34 saves.
Adrian will complete the series with Aurora tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 PM EST.
