NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Adrian College NCAA women's hockey team finished their trip to South Carolina with an overtime victory over Bowdoin to sweep the weekend. The Bulldogs picked up two wins over NESCAC opponents after defeating Williams on Saturday, 5-1 and later defeating Bowdoin 3-2 in overtime on Sunday. Adrian will enter the New Year with an 11-2 record.
Adrian scored first in the opening period on a goal from
Karmen Anderson to lead 1-0. Adrian led in shots after 20 minutes of play out shooting the Polar Bears, 19-1. In the second period,
Une Bjelland scored a goal for Adrian to lead 2-0. Bowdoin answered back before the end of the period to make it a one goal game entering the third. Bowdoin tied the game up in the third period to force the five-minute overtime.
After a back-and-forth overtime battled,
Callie Wollschlager passed the puck out from behind the net to find Bjelland for the game winner with under a minute to play.
Adrian totaled 52 shots on goal while Bowdoin collected 15. During the two-game weekend, the Bulldogs played clean hockey earning just one penalty during the two games.
Annie Gilbert picked up her second win of the weekend on Sunday where she finished the day with 13 saves.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, January 6 in Toledo where they will play Trine University in a non-conference contest at the Huntington Center, home of the ECHL Toledo Walleye. Puck drop for Saturday is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
