ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team completed its non-conference series with Augsburg University on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs were hunting revenge after last night's overtime loss to the Auggies and were successful in the effort defeating Augsburg 3-0 to split the series.
The first period went scoreless for both teams with Adrian leading 12-10 in shots on goal. The Bulldogs broke the silence early in the second period on a goal from
Ian Amsbaugh to take a 1-0 lead.
Austin Clyne and
Matt Couto added assists on the Adrian goal. After two periods of play, the Bulldogs lead 22-15 in shots on goal.
The Bulldogs added on in the third period.
Jacob Suede took a shot that pulled the Augsburg goaltender out of position leaving a wide-open net for
Bradley Somers to score the goal and lead 2-0. Later in the period, Suede scored for Adrian to put the Bulldogs ahead 3-0. The Bulldogs went on to outshoot Augsburg 37-18.
Suede finished the night with two points on a goal and an assist while Clyne totaled a pair of assists.
Dershahn Stewart got the start in goal for the Bulldogs where he finished the afternoon with 18 saves while recording a shutout.
The men's hockey team will take some time off for the holiday break and return to action after the new year. The Bulldogs' next game will be on the road on Friday, January 5 when the team travels to Trine University for a non-conference contest at 7:00 PM.
