ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's hockey team began the Harris Cup Playoffs on Friday night where the Bulldogs hosted Concordia University Wisconsin. Adrian came away with a massive 11-1 victory over the Falcon to take the first game of a two-game series. Friday marked the 200
th career win for head coach Adam Krug.
The nation's leading scorer,
Matus Spodniak, put the Bulldogs on the board early in the first period. Same Ruffin and
Zachary Heintz went on to score goals for Adrian to lead 3-0.
Riley Murphy added to the scoring followed by Spodniak's second goal of the game to lead 5-0. Heintz recorded his second goal of the game with less than a minute to go to take a 6-0 lead into intermission.
Mathew Rehding made it a 7-0 game early in the second period. Halfway through the second period, Concordia Wisconsin responded to make it 7-1. Adrian went on to score four more goals in the third period.
John Kaljian made it 8-1 followed by the hat trick goal from Spodniak.
Connor May netted a goal in the period which was capped off by a shorthanded goal from Luciani to lead 11-1.
Luciani led the team with five points on the night with a goal and four assists followed by three goals and an assist from Spodniak.
Jaden Shields totaled three assists on the night while Heintz and Rehding added three points during the win.
Nic Tallarico got the start in goal for the Bulldogs where he finished the night with 13 saves.
Tonight's win gives Adam Krug a career record of 200-44-13 for a winning percentage of .804. Krug currently has the highest winning percentage of any active head coach across all NCAA divisions. Krug's winning percentage ranks 11
th all-time in NCAA hockey history. Of the ten coaches ahead of Krug in career winning percentage all-time, the coach with the most coached games coached just 37 games.
The Bulldogs will look to advance to the semi-final round tomorrow afternoon with a win in game two of the Harris Cup Quarterfinals against Concordia Wisconsin at 3:00 PM.
