Men's Hockey Power Play Breaks NCAA Record with 10 Power Play Goals in Quarterfinal Blowout

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team completed the series with Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon at the Arrington Ice Arena. One day after head coach Adam Krug recorded his 200th win, the Bulldogs expanded on his career record with a 13-2 win.

Adrian led 2-1 after the first period. Riley Murphy grabbed the opening goal for the Bulldogs to lead 1-0 on a power play. Zachary Heintz went on to make it a 2-0 game which was eventually followed by a Falcon goal to bring the score to 2-1.

In the second period, Ty Enns scored back-to-back power play goals to make it a 4-1 game. Concordia answered to make it 4-2, but Alessio Luciani answered back with the team's fourth power play goal of the game.

Adrian went on to score eight goals in the third period. Matus Spodniak, Bradley Somers, Mathew Rehding, Heintz, Ayodele Adeniye, and Matt Couto each scored power play goals after the Bulldogs went wild on a five-minute major that was handed to the Falcons. At full strength, Spodniak added another goal followed by the team's 13th goal of the game from John Kaljian.

The Bulldogs finished the day 10-for-12 on the power play. The team's effort continues to increase the nation leading power play percentage to 43.8% on the season. The ten power play goals broke a NCAA record for most power play goals in a single game. The previous record was eight which happened in 2017, 2010, and 1996.

Nic Tallarico started in goal where he finished the day with 15 saves through two and a half periods. Jackson Bernard finished the game where he racked up three saves.

The Bulldogs advance to the NCHA Harris Cup semifinal round which will be hosted at the Arrington Ice Arena on Saturday, February 25 with an opponent to be determined.
