GREENSBORO, NC. – The Adrian College women's lacrosse team defeated Greensboro College 17-4 Tuesday evening, with nine Bulldogs recording either a goal or an assist in the victory.
How It Happened
The women's lacrosse team has been dominant to start the 2023 season. Over the team's first two games, the Bulldogs have outscored their opponents 36-8. Adrian College continued their momentum from Friday's win over Illinois Tech. on Tuesday, scoring 17 goals during the game, including a game high six in the first quarter of play. During the opening quarter, Sophie Mondro would begin the scoring array for the Bulldogs, cashing in her first of two goals on the day. It wouldn't take long for the women's lacrosse team to further increase their lead, as Jenna Anheuser would knock one into the back of the net a minute and a half after Mondro's initial goal. The Bulldogs maintained a balanced attack throughout the first quarter of play, as four individual players would score in the games first 15 minutes. At the end of the first quarter, the Bulldogs would also see a goal from Melaina Springer and two from Melaina Springer. The women's lacrosse team would head into the second with a 6-0 lead.
In the second quarter, the women's lacrosse team would pile on three more goals. Freshman Sydney Walters joined in on the scoring, notching in one of her own with 10:11 remaining in the quarter. With less than five minutes remaining in the half, Weber would score her third goal of the game. A minute later, senior Joscelyn Potter would add on another goal for the Bulldogs, off an assisting Anheuser to give the women's lacrosse team a 9-0 lead. Greensboro would counter in the last 2:50 of the half, scoring three unanswered goals to cut the Bulldogs lead to six at intermission.
In the second half, the women's lacrosse team tightened up their defense and only allowed one goal in the last 30 minutes of play. Within the first three minutes of the third quarter, Springer and Weber would add on three more goals together, furthering the Bulldogs lead to12-3. As the third quarter winded down, Springer would score with one second remaining, increasing the lead to 10.
Later in the fourth, Springer, Maggie Bean, and Weber, would add the finishing touches to the game, scoring goals in the last five minutes to complete the 17-4 victory.
"We had a gorgeous day here, sunshine and 70. After shaking off the travel legs we got into our groove. I am proud of the way our team played today and we are poised for success this season on both defense and offense!" Said Coach Bills.

Springer and Weber tied for a game high five goals in Tuesday's victory. For Springer, she would tie her career high in goals scored in a game, which she had previously set versus Illinois Tech. on February 24. Weber set her career high in goals today, surpassing her previous career high of three goals which she set on March 9, 2022 against Heidelberg.
Historical Notes
For the first time since 2013, the women's lacrosse team has started its regular season with a 2-0 record.
