GREENSBORO, North Carolina --The Adrian College women's lacrosse team dominated Guilford College Wednesday with an 11-6 victory. For the first time since 2019, the women's lacrosse team has scored 10 or more goals in each of its first three games of the season.
How It Happened
On Wednesday afternoon, the women's lacrosse team opened the match with a balanced scoring attack, as three individual players each recorded a goal to put the women's lacrosse team up 3-0 after fifteen minutes of play. With less than seven minutes remaining in the first, Jenna Anheuser would tack on the first goal of the game for the Bulldogs off of a free position shot. The goal would mark the first time in her collegiate career that Anheuser would score in consecutive games. A minute and a half later, Melaina Springer would continue the momentum for the Bulldogs. Springer, receiving no pressure at the offensive twenty-yard line, charged and juked to the left, putting a Guilford defender on her heels. Springer would use the defender's flat footedness to her advantage and ripped a shot eight yards out into the back of the net. Later, with 4:10 remaining in the quarter, Joscelyn Potter would increase the Bulldog lead to three, scoring off of a free position goal.
The Bulldogs would tack on four more goals in the second quarter and allowed only one to head into the half up 7-1. With five minutes remaining until halftime, the Bulldogs would begin to distance themselves from their opposition: Cassidy McGeorge would move out to the left corner of the Bulldog attack, shifting the defense in the process. McGeorge would turn and look to the middle of the attack, finding a cutting Zoe Weber, who would hit one into the back of the net, increasing the lead to four. The Bulldogs stayed on the attack, scoring three more goals in the final three minutes of the quarter to take a 7-1 advantage heading into the break. During the final three minutes of the half, Weber and Potter would add one goal each off of free position attempts. Emily Crager would then conclude the half with a goal, beating the clock off an assist from Springer, within the last three seconds of the quarter.
To open the second half of play, Guilford would score within the first minute to cut the lead to five. However, that would be the closest margin of the second half. After conceding the early third quarter goal, the Bulldogs would respond with goals from Springer and Anheuser to give Adrian College a seven-goal lead with 5:28 remaining in the quarter. Adrian College would head into the fourth with a 9-3 advantage.
During the fourth quarter, the women's lacrosse team would maintain their lead after two goals from the freshman Crager. During a man-up situation, the freshman out of Farmington Hills would score off an assisting Springer. Crager would follow up her first goal of the game, scoring her second goal five minutes later with 8:02 remaining to increase the Bulldog lead to seven.
