ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's volleyball team saw their two game win streak end after a three sets to zero defeat to cross town rival Siena Heights Monday evening. Beck Fieldhouse and Chase Heuer led the Bulldogs with 17 combined kills and Andrew Gawrisch tallied 26 assists in the loss.
After losing the first set 25-15, the Bulldogs would find themselves facing a five point deficit at 11-6 in the second set. The Bulldogs would battle back after kills from Zach Molnar, Fieldhouse, and Branden Gula to make it a two point game at 17-15 in favor of Siena Heights. However, the run was not enough as the Saints would close out the set with an 8-3 advantage and would head into the third set with a 2-0 lead over Adrian.
At the beginning of the third set, Micah Lowe would provide the Bulldogs with a service ace to put the men's volleyball team up 5-3 early. The Bulldogs would then capitalize on both an attack error and service error by Siena Heights to take an 8-5 lead. Siena Heights responded by scoring three straight to tie the game at eight all. Over the next few minutes, Heuer would record a kill and the Bulldogs would capitalize on two attacking and one service error from the Saints to tie the set up at 11 all. After the Saints broke out on a run to lead by five at 18-13, Gula and Heuer combined for three kills to bring the Bulldogs back within two points at 22-20. The Bulldogs would manage to pull within two for a second time in the later stages of the set at 24-22. However, the rally fell short and Siena Heights would win the set 25-22.
Top Dawgs
Heading into tonight's matchup with Siena Heights, Bulldogs Chase Heuer, Beck Fieldhouse, Jacob Rembulat, and Andrew Garwisch, were ranked inside the top five in kills, hitting percentage, digs per set, total digs, service aces per set, and assists per set. Fieldhouse led the Bulldogs with nine kills, followed by Heuer with eight. Gawrisch tallied 26 assists and added eight digs. Rembulat would end the night with seven digs, while Molnar and Carson Bell each recorded a team high three blocks this evening.
Looking Ahead
The men's volleyball team, winners of three out of their past four games, will travel to Bloomington, Illinois this weekend to participate in the Illinois Wesleyan Quad on Friday and Saturday, February 10 and 11. The Bulldogs will begin the quad with their first-ever match against Edgewood College on the 10th at 7:00 PM EST. The Men's volleyball team will conclude Friday evening with a match against Illinois Wesleyan University at 9:00 PM EST.
