ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's lacrosse team hosted Oberlin College in a midweek non-conference battle on Wednesday afternoon. Adrian was within reach after the first quarter before Oberlin pulled ahead before halftime. The Bulldogs showed signs of life in the second half, but Oberlin came away with the victory defeating the Bulldogs 15-7.
Oberlin opened the scoring in the first quarter on a pair of goals to lead 2-0. With 5:34 to go in the quarter,
Jake Coakley scored a man-up goal to make it 2-1. Oberlin responded, but
Michael Jonas put the score at 4-2 before the quarter ran out.
The Bulldogs struggled in the second quarter as Oberlin started with five unanswered goals. With just over a minute to play in the half,
Austin Selvage scored to make it a 9-3 game heading into halftime.
Oberlin scored the first three goals on the second half, but
Derek Hassel and
Bowen Sparks found the back of the net for Adrian to make it 12-5. Oberlin scored to lead by eight, but Hassel netted his second of the game to make it 13-6.
In the fourth quarter, Oberlin continued its success scoring two goals before Selvage netted his second of the game bringing the final score to 15-7 in favor of Oberlin.
The Bulldogs finished 16-of-20 on the clear this afternoon and went 15-11 on the faceoff.
Ethan Krupp started for Adrian in goal recording 12 saves in the loss.
Cameron Reed led the team with five caused turnovers while picking up eight ground balls.
Gino Capicchioni recorded ten ground balls with the help of 14 face off wins.
This weekend, the Bulldogs will head down to Tennessee to take on Sewanee on Saturday, March 4 at 1:00 PM.
