Men’s Volleyball Loses In Three Sets Against Wittenberg Sunday Afternoon

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College Men's volleyball team lost to Wittenberg University in three sets Sunday afternoon. Chase Heuer led the Bulldogs with a team high 10 kills Sunday.

How It Happened

To start the match, Wittenberg jumped out to a six-point lead by doubling up the Bulldogs in the first set at 12-6. Despite every rally Adrian College created in the first, Wittenberg always found a way to counter the men's volleyball team. Eventually, the Bulldogs cut the Wittenberg deficit to five after capitalizing on two Tiger errors, a service ace from Zach Molnar, and a kill by Heuer. Despite the rally, Wittenberg kept the Bulldogs at bay and would take the first set with a 25-20 victory.

Later in the following set, the Bulldogs created momentum for themselves and built a three-point lead with the help of a kill by Carson Bell, and two errors by the Tigers. Eventually, the Tigers would take the lead and the men's volleyball team would find themselves down 18-13 midway through the set. The Bulldogs would rally and score seven of the game's next eight points to claim a 20-19 lead over their foes from Ohio. Over the next couple of minutes, each team exchanged blows and would see a lead as large as one point. In the closing moments of the set, Beck Fieldhouse would record a kill that brought the Bulldogs into a 28-28 tie with the Tigers. However, back-to-back kills from Wittenberg allowed the Tigers to take the second set and a 2-0 lead over the Bulldogs.

During the third and final set of the afternoon, neither team built a substantial amount of momentum. From Wittenberg's 12-10 lead to Adrian's 20-19 lead, the Bulldogs and Tigers exchanged six ties. During the scoring period, the Bulldogs would lead by as much as one and trail by as few as two. In the later stages of the third, Adrian College tied the set again at 21 all, off a Tiger service error. Unfortunately, the men's volleyball team was unable to score for the remainder of the match.
