CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- The Adrian Men's Rowing team traveled to Chestertown, Maryland this weekend for their traditional season opener, the Washington College Invitational. The race typically sees the majority of the Bulldogs' Conference Rivals show up, and this weekend was no different.
Through hard gusting wind and waves the Adrian Men's Varsity 8+ posted a victory in their Heat over Villanova and St Mary's College. It was a strong and controlled performance, with plenty to look forward to in a final that ultimately never happened.
Unfortunately, with continually worsening conditions, the remaining races were ultimately canceled, meaning that neither the Varsity Eight or Four were able to compete in the finals of their respective categories.
"We're disappointed to have missed out on a chance to lay down a marker early in the season," said Coach Pratt, "The Eight looked very strong in their heat, and both crews were hungry to lay down a fast time in the final. However, the most important thing is that all athletes made it back to the dock safe and sound amid some pretty terrible conditions, and we'll be ready to race again at home in two weeks!"
The Bulldogs are back in action on April 8th as they host Milwaukee School of Engineering, Michigan State University, and Grand Valley State University at the Devil's Lake Invitational.
