ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's lacrosse team hosted Alma College for a MIAA battle on Tuesday evening at Docking Stadium. After falling behind in the first half, the Bulldogs battled back led by seven goals in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, the comeback fell short with Alma coming away with a 16-12 victory over the Bulldogs.
Alma jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but
Zoe Weber responded to tie the game 1-1. Alma scored back-to-back goals to lead 3-1, but
Melaina Springer came back to put the Bulldogs back within one. Alma made it 4-2, but the Bulldogs didn't go away.
Maggie Bean scored with three seconds to go in the quarter to make the score 4-3.
The Bulldogs struggled to keep possession in the second quarter as Alma went on to score seven goals to lead 10-3 at half.
After Alma scored the first two goals of the second half, Springer took matters into her own hands scoring back-to-back goals for the Bulldogs to end the third quarter trailing 13-5. Springer continued to pick apart the Alma defense scoring the first two goals of the fourth quarter to trail by seven.
Alma went on to regain control scoring three straight goals, but back came Adrian.
Jenna Anheuser scored followed by a goal from
Taylor Gregan less than a minute later.
Mey Sun went on to make it a 16-10 game with her third career goal. Springer went on to score again for Adrian followed by another Bulldog goal from
Cassidy McGeorge. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the comeback came to an end as time expired.
Springer totaled seven points on the night for Adrian with six goals and an assist to go along with 11 draw controls and three caused turnovers.
Hannah Reeves recorded six saves on the night as she started in goal while
Megan Steffey collected seven saves after entering in the second quarter.
Adrian will turn things around and head to Albion College on Friday, April 14 for a MIAA battle with the Britons at 7PM.
