Men's Lacrosse Remains Perfect in MIAA Play after Win over Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Adrian College men's lacrosse team continued MIAA play on the road on Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Calvin University. The Bulldogs improve to 3-0 in conference play after defeating the Knights 10-7.
 
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. Brett Koczenasz started the scoring for the Bulldogs followed by a goal from Riley Edwards just over a minute later. Austin Selvage made it 3-0 with a goal with 5:31 to play in the first. Calvin answered with a pair of goals to make it 3-2 at the end of the first.
 
It was a defensive battle in the second quarter with only one goal scored between the two teams. With 5:35 to go in the half, Michael Jonas scored a goal down a man to make it 4-2 at halftime.
 
Calvin scored to open the second half, but the Bulldogs responded with four goals of their own. Jake Coakley made it 5-3 followed by a pair of goals from Jonas and another goal from Coakley to lead 8-3. Calvin scored at the end of the half to make it 8-4.
 
Calvin made it a three-goal game to open the first quarter of play. Derek Hassel and Michael Jonas scored to increase the Adrian lead back to five. Calvin scored twice with under two minutes to go, but ran out of time giving Adrian a 10-7 win.
 
Cameron Reed led the team with five ground balls on the afternoon while AJ Hayes caused a pair of turnovers. Sam Spangler earned the win in goal for the Bulldogs totaling 11 saves on the day.
 
The Bulldogs return home with a tough contest with Hope College on Tuesday, April 18. Tuesday's game will begin at 7:00 PM at Docking Stadium.
