ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's lacrosse team hosted Hope College in a MIAA battle on Tuesday evening. The Bulldogs entered the night with a winning streak of three, but Hope brought it to an end after the Bulldogs lost 15-9.
Hope started the game hot taking a quick 3-0 lead over Adrian. With four minutes left in the first,
Jake Coakley put Adrian on the board to make it 3-1.
Michael Jonas scored 34 seconds later followed by Coakley's second goal of the game to tie the game 3-3 at the end of the first.
Hope scored the first three goals of the second quarter to lead 6-3. Jonas sparked another comeback by scoring a goal to make it 6-4.
Derek Hassel and Alex Winegar scored to tie the game 6-6. Hope found the back of the net one more time before the half ended to lead Adrian 7-6 at the break.
Adrian came out in the second half and took the lead. Jonas scored another Bulldog goal followed by another goal from Winegar to lead 8-7. Hope responded with five straight goals to take a 12-8 lead. Coakley found the back of the net with just under five minutes to go and trail by three. It was all Hope the rest of the way as they added one more goal in the third and one in the fourth to win 15-9.
Cameron Reed led the team with four caused turnovers on the afternoon. The team totaled four caused turnovers as well on four shot clock violations. Trent Tidwell,
Nicolo Crisler,
Austin Selvage, and
Benjamin Magnus all finished the day with three ground balls.
Sam Spangler picked up the loss in goal while totaling 12 saves.
The Bulldogs have another tough contest this weekend when they travel to Albion College on Friday, April 21 for a 4:00 PM game.
