CHERRY HILL, NJ. -- The Adrian Men's Rowing team traveled to the annual Knecht Cup regatta this weekend. The regatta is one of the largest Collegiate races of the Spring, and saw beautiful rowing conditions on both days.
On Saturday, the Varsity eight raced to a fourth place finish in both the heat and the semi-final, securing a place in Sunday's petite final. In a very strong field packed with Division 1 crews the Bulldogs were able to sprint through Catholic University and Iona College at the death to finish in fourth position in the final. This also ensured that they were second out of the Division 3 crews, with only Trinity (ranked number 3 nationally) ahead in the division.
On Sunday, the Varsity pair of
Franco Van Oordt and
Andre Shellum took home a gold medal by almost 4 seconds, with the Division 3 four following in the medaling trend by racing hard to secure a second place finish, behind only Division 2 Mercyhurst.
"This weekend was a really positive response to a number of difficult setbacks. With a lot of illness in the past week we had to deal with some severe disruptions and came through with some strong results in spite of this." Said Coach Pratt of the racing, "We look forward to seeing what we can do as we recover to full strength and approach the Conference championships in two weeks!"
The Bulldogs will be back in action next week at the Marietta Invitational!
