ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's lacrosse team completed the regular season on Wednesday evening after defeating the Trine University Thunder, 13-5. The Bulldogs qualified for the MIAA Tournament locking in the No. 3 seed for the playoffs.
Adrian led 4-1 after the first quarter.
Alec Winegar started the scoring for the Bulldogs scoring an early unassisted goal. After Trine tied the game,
Austin Selvage scored to lead 2-1.
Derek Hassel and
Riley Edwards added goals in the period. In the second,
Owen Kelly scored a goal to extend the lead to 5-1. Trine responded but was answered later by Winegar to lead 6-2 at the half.
Winegar scored his third goal of the game to open the second half to lead 7-2. Trine answered back, but the Bulldogs ended the third quarter with five straight goals.
Brandon Hoerauf scored for Adrian followed by
Jake Coakley and
Steven Martin to lead 10-3.
Michael Jonas ended the third with back-to-back goals to increase Bulldog lead. Selvage added a goal in the fourth to put Adrian ahead 13-3.
Cameron Reed led the team with five caused turnovers and six ground balls. Hassel added five ground balls followed by Martin with four.
Sam Spangler earned the win in goal for the Bulldogs finishing the night with 12 saves.
Adrian has locked up the No. 3 seed for the MIAA conference tournament. The tournament bracket is scheduled to be announced after Saturday's remaining MIAA contests. Check
