LAKE QUINSIGAMOND, Mass. – Adrian Rowing traveled to Massachusetts last week to compete in the National Invitational Rowing Championships. On a hot and humid Friday with strong gusting winds, the Bulldogs rowed in a field that included the majority of Division Three rowing colleges.
In the first race of the day, Adrian raced in a tough field stacked with highly competitive crews such as #1 seed Williams, University of Michigan, and Division 1 Hobart. With difficult wind conditions and stiff competition, the crew fell to fifth in the field, securing a spot in the third level final for the afternoon's racing.
In the final, the Bulldogs put forth a very strong performance to finish first in their final by around 4 seconds over Colby College. The opening stages of the race were fiercely contested, with Colby taking a one seat advantage at the first five-hundred-meter marker. However, Adrian put together a crushing move just before halfway to seize the lead and did not look back, moving out to a length's lead in the second half and securing the win. The result put them tenth of all division three crews.
"We saw a really positive response to the morning's racing in the final," said Coach Pratt, "We were hoping to make the second level final, but the most important thing was to put forth a strong effort which we certainly did."
This was the first of two postseason races for Men's Rowing, with the National Championships coming up at the start of June.
