Offense Struggles to Find the Endzone as Football Drops Opening Contest to Elmhurst on the Road

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Adrian College football team began its season on the road on Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Elmhurst University for a non-conference contest. The Bulldogs struggled to get momentum on offense as they fell to the Blue Jays, 14-3. The Bulldogs totaled 264 total yards of offense while allowing just 204.
 
With 3:06 to go in the first quarter, Elmhurst intercepted a pass and returned it 54 yards for a touchdown to lead 7-0. Adrian got on the board with under a minute to play in the first half with a field goal to head into halftime trailing 7-3. Elmhurst scored another touchdown in the third quarter on a 3-yard rush to lead 14-3 and complete the scoring. The Adrian defense forced a pair of turnovers in the fourth quarter with an interception and a fumble, but Adrian struggled to execute and put points on the board.
 
Brady Raymond started at quarterback for the Bulldogs making his collegiate debut where he finished 12-of-20 with 97 yard passing and two interceptions. Mark Lopez came off the bench to play the fourth quarter and make his collegiate debut, and finished 5-of-7 with 16 yards passing. Salvatore Patierno led the running backs with 58 yards rushing on 17 attempts. Raymond followed behind with 50 yards rushing on 11 attempts. Ben Coloske led the receivers with 50 yards receiving on four receptions while Cole Seslar caught seven passes for 46 yards.
 
Randall Broome led Adrian in tackles with ten on the day including two tackles for loss and a shared sack with Kameruan Smith. Waides Ashmon totaled eight tackles on defense followed by six from Ryker Bidwell. Chaun Tolbert came away with an interception for Adrian.
 
The Bulldogs will look to bounce back on Saturday, September 9 when they host Defiance College for the home opener at 1:00 PM at Docking Stadium.
