ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College football opened up at home on Saturday for a week two battle with Defiance College. The Bulldogs went into halftime with the lead, but the offense struggled in the second half allowing Defiance to comeback and defeat Adrian, 34-17.
Adrian grabbed an early touchdown to jump out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
Brady Raymond found
Ben Coloske in the endzone for an 8-yard touchdown pass. Later in the quarter,
Alec Milley kicked a 28-yard field goal to lead 10-0. Defiance got on the board with under a minute to go in the first to make it 10-7.
Defiance took the lead early in the second quarter after blocking a punt and recovering the ball in the endzone for a touchdown. With Adrian trailing 14-10, Coloske caught his second touchdown of the game on a 15-yard reception with six seconds to go in the half. The Bulldogs went into the break leading 17-14.
It was all Defiance in the second half and they took a 21-17 lead with 9:35 to go in the third. Defiance scored another touchdown with 9:17 to go in the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 28-17. With 1:20 remaining, Defiance scored again, but missed the extra point to win 34-17.
Raymond led the team in passing finishing the day 6-for-15 with 110 yards and two touchdowns.
Mark Lopez came into the game in the second half where he finished 6-for-11 with 50 yards passing.
Salvatore Patierno and Raymond each recorded 37 yards rushing for Adrian. Coloske finished the day with four receptions for 80 yards.
On defense,
Ryker Bidwell led the team with 17 total tackles with ten solo tackles. Bidwell's 17 total tackles sits tied for second in program history for most tackles in a single game.
Tche Leroux finished the day with eight total tackles including two tackles for loss.
AJ Pipkins recorded an interception for the Bulldogs in the first quarter which he returned for 36 yards.
Adrian returns to action on Saturday, September 16 at home for Homecoming against Bluffton University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
