ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's basketball team traveled to Saint Mary's College (IN) for a make-up MIAA conference game on Monday night. The Bulldogs battled hard, but unfortunately dropped a close one, 71-68.
Adrian started out the game winning the first quarter by a five-point margin, 19-14.
Kiaya Warner led the Bulldogs with 13 points in the first quarter alone. The second quarter was another story for Adrian where they gave up a total of 31 points. Adrian would struggle to get defensive stops and allow Saint Mary's to collectively make 12 field goals. The Bulldogs would end up being down at the halftime break, 33-45. Adrian would shoot 35% from the floor and go 3-5 from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Bulldogs would come out of the halftime break with a spark winning the third quarter, 19-13. Adrian would go on a 11-2 run in the third while bringing themselves to within six points, 58-52. Adrian would win the fourth quarter as well by a three-point margin, but it was not enough.
Ashlyn Weatherly would make a layup to bring them back to within one point with 42 seconds in regulation. Made free throws from Saint Mary's would seal the win for them while the Bulldogs would suffer the loss, 71-68. The Bulldogs would shoot 24-63 from the field and shoot 50% from three.
To lead Adrian was Warner with a game-high 24 points while tallying four steals.
Julia Tierman would add 11 points and
Kylie Skidmore would contribute 10 points. Weatherly would pull down 10 rebounds while
Kali Barber grabbing seven of her own. Skidmore and Tierman would both dish out five assists each.
Adrian will play Hope College at home on Wednesday, January 17 at 7:00 PM inside the Merillat Performance Gym.
