ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team hosted Lake Forest College in game one of the two-game weekend series on Friday night. The Bulldogs came away with a 6-2 victory with the help of a two-goal night from
Jacob Suede.
Jaden Shields scored his 100th career point for the Bulldogs with a third period goal.
The Bulldogs led 1-0 after the first period on a goal from
Ian Amsbaugh. To open the second period, Suede scored to give Adrian a 2-0 lead which was followed by a goal from
Ryan Pitoscia to lead 3-0. Lake Forest answered back with a pair of goals to cut into Adrian's lead, but
Riley Murphy scored with 30 seconds to go in the period to lead 4-2 at the break. In the third period, Suede scored his second of the game to lead 5-2 before Shields netted an insurance goal to win 6-2.
Ben Loreto and
Alec Lovisek each added two assists on the night. Adrian went on to lead in shots on goal 45-29 with the help of five shots on goal from Shields and five from
Casey Gerstein.
Dershahn Stewart started in goal for the Bulldogs where he finished the night with 27 saves.
With the help of a Trine University loss, Adrian pulls ahead by four points in the NCHA standings to sit alone in first place at 10-1-0 with 29 points. St. Norbert and Trine are tied for second with 25 points while Aurora sits in fourth with 24.
The Bulldogs will look to pick up three more points tomorrow afternoon when they close out the series with Lake Forest at the Arrington Ice Arena at 4:00 PM.
