ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team hosted the University of Dubuque Spartans on Friday night to open up Senior Weekend. The Bulldogs went on to defeat Dubuque, 8-1, led by
Jaden Shields' first career hat trick.
Adrian grabbed the first goal of the game on a goal from
Ian Amsbaugh. The Spartans went on to tie the game ten minutes later, but was answered by Shields' first goal of the night on the power play.
Connor May scored at the end of the period to lead 3-1 at the first intermission.
Alec Lovisek scored in the second period to extend the Adrian lead which was later followed by a shorthanded goal from
Mathew Rehding with under a minute to play in the period. Shields picked up two goals in the third period to collect his hat trick and extend Adrian's lead to 7-1.
Jacob Suede scored the final goal of the game for the Bulldogs to finish off the win.
Shields added an assist to his three-goal night while May and Amsbaugh each collected three assists.
Nolan Suggs earned the win in goal on Friday night with the help of a 16 save night including ten in the second period.
Adrian's next contest will be Saturday, January 27 at 3:00 PM when they host the Spartans for the series finale. Tomorrow's game will be Senior Day where the Bulldogs will honor their senior class with a pregame ceremony starting at roughly 2:40 PM.
