DETROIT, Mich. – The Adrian College men's basketball team would play the Trine Thunder for an MIAA conference game on Sunday night inside Little Caesar's Arena, home to the Detroit Pistons. The Bulldogs would take #7 Trine down to the wire, but could not grab the lead down the stretch. The Thunder would down the Bulldogs by a score of 69-65.
In the first half of play Adrian would make the first basket of the game. A three-pointer by
Kendall Chrismon assisted by
Josh Jordan to take a 3-0 lead. A back and forth first twenty minutes is what we saw as the score was all tied up at 23 apiece with about five minutes left in the first half. Trine would go on a 10-2 run to go up eight with just about a minute and a half left. A layup by
Nick Seifert with four seconds to go would close the window, but the Bulldogs would trail 36-30 at the break. Adrian would shoot 50% from the floor and go 2-6 from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs would go 10-14 from the line in the first twenty minutes.
Chrismon would stay hot to start the second half by burying another three-pointer to give Adrian its first basket of the second half. The Bulldogs would not shy away as they continued to keep the game close. Adrian would go on to tie the game at 45 apiece with just under 14 minutes to play. The next possession Seifert would make a layup to give Adrian a two-point lead. Trine would keep it close as they would eventually take a 62-57 lead with just about five minutes to go into the game. Crucial missed opportunities from the stripe down the stretch would allow Trine to come away with the victory 69-65.
To lead Adrian in scoring was Seifert with 21 points on 7-12 shooting and Chrismon pouring in 17 of his own shooting 50% from the floor.
Josh Rechsteiner would grab a team-high eight rebounds while Jordan and Seifert would both have four assists each. The Bulldogs would shoot 45.7% from the field and go 5-14 from the three-point line.
Adrian will look to bounce back in conference play as they will head to The University of Olivet on Wednesday, January 31 at 7:30 PM.
