OLIVET, Mich. – The Adrian College men's basketball team would travel to The University of Olivet for a Wednesday night MIAA conference game. A battle tested game would turn into the Bulldogs favor in overtime for a 74-69 win!
In the first half the Bulldogs would start the game with a 12-6 lead in the first five minutes. An 8-0 run from the Comets would have them take a two-point lead in the middle of the first twenty minutes of play. Two free throws from
Michael Rightnowar would send Adrian into the halftime break with a 31-25 lead. The Bulldogs would shoot 13-39 from the floor and go 2-11 from the three-point line.
An 8-2 run from the Comets would start the wild second half of play. Halfway through the second half The University of Olivet would have a 45-39 lead. The Bulldogs would struggle to string stops together and continue to trail after a Ryan Bart three-pointer to be down by a nine-point margin. With 43 seconds left the Bulldogs would trail by eight points. Belief and toughness would be the difference in those 43 seconds of play. A
Kendall Chrismon three-pointer would take it down to a five with 35 seconds. A Comet turnover gave some life as the next possession would turn into another Chrismon three-point make. With 13 seconds left a missed front end of a one and one free throw from the Comets would give an opening for the Bulldogs to stay alive. Another three-point attempt from Chrismon would bank off of the back board and fall directly into
Braylon Dickerson's hands as he would lay the ball in at the buzzer to take the game into overtime tied at 62.
In the extra five minutes of play Adrian would win the tip and get a layup from
Josh Jordan to take an early lead. The Bulldogs would never trail again as eight straight free throws were made by the Bulldogs. Two from Chrismon, four from
Nick Seifert and another two to seal the win from Rightnowar. Adrian would shoot 32.9% from the field and go 4-24 from beyond the arc, but go 14-18 from the stripe.
Seifert would lead the Bulldogs in scoring with 20 followed by Jordan with 15 of his own.
Josh Rechsteiner would grab a team-high seven boards and four steals while Seifert would dish out four assists.
Adrian will travel to Calvin University on Saturday, February 3
rd for their next contest at 3:00 PM.
