ADRIAN, MICH. - The Adrian College women's wrestling team wrapped up a competitive day at the Adrian College Women's Invitational on Sunday, showcasing strong individual performances across several weight classes.
In the 117-pound division, junior Sharla Juhas had a solid showing, finishing 1-2 on the day. After receiving a first-round bye, Juhas fell in the second round but bounced back with a victory by fall in the consolation bracket. She ultimately came up short in the third round of the consolation bracket but showed resilience throughout the tournament.
At 124 pounds, both sophomore Sophia Renteria and freshman Samantha Bultron faced tough challenges, each falling in their two matches. Though they didn't secure a win, their experience at the tournament will be valuable as they continue to develop.
Junior Isabella Richardson competed in the 145-pound bracket, where she also went 1-2. After a first-round bye, Richardson impressed with a victory by fall in her second match to advance to the quarterfinals. She faced tough competition and ultimately fell in both the quarterfinals and the consolation bracket but fought hard through each round.
Teammate junior Isabel Worthing, also wrestling at 145 pounds, finished with a 2-2 record. Worthing won her opening match by fall, but after a loss in the second round, she found herself in the consolation bracket. She bounced back with another victory by fall before falling in her final match, demonstrating both tenacity and skill in a highly competitive field.
Senior Nahomi Marmolejo had a challenging tournament at 160 pounds, going 0-2.
In the 180-pound class, freshman Mia Gaetjens had a standout performance, securing eighth place with a 3-3 record. Gaetjens won her first match by tech fall and advanced up the bracket before falling in the quarterfinals. Despite dropping her last two matches, her efforts earned her a well-deserved spot in the top eight.
Sophomore Xsaria Puente also competed in the 180-pound division, earning a strong fifth-place finish with a 4-2 record. After an opening loss, Puente bounced back with three consecutive wins, including a tech fall and two pins. Puente would fall in the constilation semifinals and would bounce back and win the fifth-place match.
As a team, Adrian College secured 41.5 team points, earning 19th place out of 29 teams in a highly competitive tournament.
Adrian will head to Albion College to compete in the Albion College Women's Open on Sunday, November 17 with competition starting at 9:00 AM.
