JAMESTOWN, N.D. -- The No. 4 Adrian College Women's ACHA Division 1 hockey team was successful on its trip to North Dakota this weekend where they faced off twice against No. 6 Minot State and once against No. 14 Jamestown. The Bulldogs collected two wins and a tie on the weekend.
Adrian hit the road for a lengthy road trip early last week and kicked off the weekend with an afternoon match-up with Minot State on Friday. The Bulldogs opened their weekend with an impressive 4-2 win over the Beavers, receiving two goals from
Genessie Williams, and singles from
Macy Piche and
Tess McKerrow, who both added assists in the win as well. Goaltender,
Rieley Jessie-Gerelli earned the win after stopping 30 of 32 shots faced.
Just under 24 hours later, the Bulldogs and Beavers clashed again to close the series, with this one ending much closer and in a 2-2 tie. The Bulldogs opened the scoring late in the second period to break the tie thanks to
Makenzie Villiard, before the Beavers tied it up on the power-play early in the third.
Hailey Wiltshire scored on the man-advantage just a few minutes later to give Adrian the lead, but more penalty trouble for the Bulldogs allowed the Beavers to tie it again on the power-play. After regulation ended in a 2-2 tie, a sudden-death overtime period commenced, which saw no scoring from either team. With the game ending 2-2, the Bulldogs and Beavers decided to move forward with a shootout. McKerrow tallied the game-winner on a beautiful head fake attempt, while goaltender
Amanda Storey shut the door. In the game, Storey stopped a ton of rubber, making 44 saves on 46 shots.
The Bulldogs continued their road trip on Sunday, heading down the road to the University of Jamestown to end their busy weekend. The Bulldogs and Jimmies traded goals all game, but it was Adrian who found a way late to earn the 5-4 triumph. Bulldog goals came from Captain
Allison Shaw, who had two, Villiard, Wiltshire, and
Tyla Turnbull, who potted the game-winner midway through the final stanza of play. Freshman goalie,
Olivia Towpich, started in goal for Adrian but was pulled after four goals on 22 shots, bringing Jessie-Gerelli into the game in relief and completing the positive weekend for the Bulldogs.
The WD1 Bulldogs move to 13-3-2 on the season and will gear up for a home-and-home CCWHA conference series with Miami (OH) next weekend. The Bulldogs and Redhawks will face-off at the Arrington Ice Arena on Saturday, November 23 at 7:00 PM, before heading to Ohio on Sunday, November 24 for a 1:00 PM puck drop.
