ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College football team bounced back on Saturday afternoon as the Bulldogs took on Kalamazoo College. Adrian came away with a 35-21 victory over the Hornets to earn their sixth win of the season.
Adrian jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter after a 9-yard rushing touchdown from
Jake Kelbert followed by a 67-yard touchdown reception from
Ethan Abberger. Kalamazoo responded in the second quarter, but
Jalen Wallace caught a 9-yard pass with 39 seconds to go in the half to lead 21-7 at the break. The Hornets scored the only points in the third quarter on a touchdown to make it 21-14. In the fourth quarter,
Quinn Hiram caught a touchdown for 17 yards which was later responded by Kalamazoo with a 2-yard touchdown run of their own. With 2:24 to go in the game, Abberger caught his second touchdown of the game for 55 yards to lock up the victory.
Kelbert finished the day 20-of-28 with 270 yards passing a four passing touchdowns.
Trey Brueggemann led the team on the ground with 62 yards rushing followed by 57 rushing yards from
Tyson Hill and 34 from
Shondel Hardnett. Abberger finished the day with seven receptions for 150 yards and two scores. Wallace caught nine passes for Adrian for 82 yards.
On defense,
Maddox Woods and
Mike White each finished with six tackles. White collected one sack and three and a half tackles for loss.
Waides Ashmon had a big second half with five tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception.
Adrian returns to action on the road on Saturday, November 9 when they travel to Trine University for their final road game of the season. Kick off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
