ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team bounced back on Sunday afternoon and defeated Utica University, 5-3, at home on Sunday. After falling in the final minute of play the night before, No. 3 Adrian splits the series with No. 4 Utica to move to 1-1 on the season.
Early in the first period,
Will Bowman scored his first collegiate goal to take a 1-0 lead. Later in the period,
Ian Amsbaugh netted a power play goal which was answered by Utica to make it 2-1 at the end of the first. Utica took a 3-2 lead in the second, but Amsbaugh struck again on another power play to tie the game 3-3. In the third period,
Jacob Suede netted a goal to take a 4-3 lead before
Bradley Somers sealed the deal with an empty netter.
Amsbaugh finished the day with two goals and an assist while Bowman finished with a goal and an assist. Freshman,
Patrick Saini and
David Clarke recorded a pair of assists on the afternoon.
Dershahn Stewart finished the afternoon with 34 saves.
Sunday afternoon's victory marked the first career win for head coach
Adam Phillips in his NCAA coaching career.
The tough non-conference schedule will continue on the road for the Bulldogs next weekend when they travel to New York. Adrian will face Cortland on Friday, November 8 at 7PM followed by Oswego State on Saturday, November 9 at 7PM.
