Game Recap: Women's NCAA Ice Hockey | | Nolan DeVriese

Emma Simon Capitalizes in the Shootout Victory Over MSOE

ADRIAN, MICH.- The No. 4-ranked Adrian College women's hockey team completed a thrilling sweep of their series against MSOE on Saturday afternoon, securing a dramatic victory in a shootout. Despite dominating the game in nearly every statistical category, it was freshman Emma Simon who ultimately sealed the win in the shootout, sending the Bulldogs to a well deserved victory.

Adrian's offense was relentless throughout the game, firing a total of 23 shots in the first period, followed by 14 in the second and 19 more in the third. However, despite their efforts, the Bulldogs couldn't find the back of the net. The MSOE defense and goaltender stood tall, but it was Adrian's own goaltender junior Annie Gilbert who was a brick wall in net, stopping all 15 shots she faced to record a perfect shutout and keep the game scoreless.

The Bulldogs put up a staggering 61 total shots to MSOE's 15 but struggled to convert on multiple power-play opportunities, leaving both teams deadlocked at 0-0 at the end of regulation. The game then moved into overtime, where both teams battled to a stalemate, unable to break the deadlock.

With the game hanging in the balance, it was time for the shootout. MSOE missed their first two attempts, and Simon stepped up with calm confidence. The freshman made no mistake, netting the game-winning goal and securing the victory for Adrian, completing the weekend sweep.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Friday, January 10th where they will travel to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania where they will face Chatham University at 3:00 PM
