Women's Wrestling Finishes 26th at North Central Open

NAPERVILLE, ILL. - The Adrian College women's wrestling team had an impressive showing at the North Central Women's Open on Sunday, finishing in 26th place with 21.5 team points. Several Bulldogs delivered standout performances across multiple weight classes.

Junior Alexis Hart-Bucther competed in the 117-pound division, where she earned a bye in the first round and made an immediate impact by securing a pin in her opening match. Although she fell in the quarterfinals and again in the third round of the consolation bracket, Hart-Bucther demonstrated tenacity in each of her bouts.

Junior Sharla Juhas, also wrestling in the 117-pound division, had a dominant start to the tournament, winning her first two matches by tech fall and adding a pin to her record. However, Juhas was eliminated in the quarterfinals and third round of the consolation bracket but fought hard throughout.

In the 124-pound class, Sophomore Sophia Renteria had a strong performance, winning her opening match before falling in the second round. She made an impressive recovery, battling through the consolation bracket to ultimately claim first place in the consolation finals with a 5-1 record in the tournament.

Freshman Samthna Bultron competed in the 138-pound division, where she advanced due to an injury default before ultimately going 1-2, falling in her subsequent matches.

Three Bulldogs represented Adrian in the 180-pound weight class. Freshman Mia Gaetjens secured 4 team points by winning her first two matches before being eliminated in the quarterfinals and third round of the consolation bracket. Sophomore Xsaria Puente went 0-2 in the tournament but showed great determination. Freshman Josie Hause went 1-2, bouncing back from a first-round loss to win her second match before falling in the consolation bracket.

Adrian is back in action on Friday, January 10th where they will travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa to compete in the NWCA Duals.
