ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's basketball team hosted The University of Olivet on Monday evening in an MIAA contest. The Bulldogs battled the Comets to three overtime periods with the help of two buzzer beating three-pointers to win 87-77.
Adrian came out shooting to start the game jumping out to a 5-0 lead early in the first. The Bulldogs led 16-10 after the first quarter, but Olivet bounced back to trail by two at 25-23 at the break.
Kylie Skidmore led the team with nine first half points followed by five from
Darby Lienerth.
Ashlyn Weatherly grabbed eight rebounds in the first half.
In was a high scoring third quarter with Olivet knocking down 24 points to take the lead. Adrian sparked a late run at the end of the quarter to trail 47-45 after late three-pointers from
Hannah Lisch and
Morgan Babb. Adrian opened the fourth quarter tying the game 47-47, but Olivet when on a 10-4 run to lead 57-51 with five minutes to play. With 45 second to play, Adrian cut the deficit to three and later knocked down a buzzer beater to force overtime.
Adrian grabbed the lead in overtime leading 70-67 with a minute to go. Olivet tied the game on a later three-pointer later forcing a second overtime. After another thrilling overtime period, Olivet led by three with 7.3 seconds remaining in which
Kaitlyn Otto knocked down a three to tie the game 75-75 with 1.9 remaining and later forcing a third overtime. The Bulldogs scored a pair of quick baskets and led by four with 2:05 remaining and sparked a run to lead by eight with under a minute to go. The Bulldogs ended up ahead 87-77.
Hannah Lisch led the team with 21 points followed by 20 from
Kylie Skidmore and 16 from
Morgan Babb. Adrian's success came from 40 points in the paint. Weatherly and Babb finished the game with 12 rebounds each while Lienerth finished with 11.
Adrian will travel to Bluffton University on Saturday, December 21 for a 1:00 PM contest before heading home for the holiday break. After the holiday, the Bulldogs will travel to DePauw University for a two-day tournament.
