KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Adrian College women's basketball team came out on top in an overtime thriller on the road at Kalamazoo College on Wednesday night, opening MIAA conference play with a 63-60 win to move to 2-5 on the season.
In a contest that saw both teams trade scores through each quarter, it was the Bulldogs who got the best of the .500 Hornets, grabbing the win to start 1-0 in their MIAA conference agenda. After a late three-pointer from the Hornets in the fourth quarter, the teams headed to overtime tied at 53. In the extra frame, Adrian managed to convert three late free-throw attempts to secure the victory.
Aubrie Ickes provided the winning bucket off a free-throw with 12 seconds remaining before
Morgan Babb added two more for cushion with seconds remaining.
Babb set a new career-high for points in a strong performance, scoring 24 to lead the Bulldogs in scoring on Wednesday. Babb also led the team in rebounds with 17, while adding 2 assists, 3 blocks, and 3 steals. Right behind Babb in the winning effort was
Kylie Skidmore who added 10 points, 5 rebounds, 6 dimes, and 2 steals.
Adrian shot 30.6% from the field, 14.3% from three-point range, and 61.5% from the line, converting 16 of 26.
The Bulldogs' next game will take place on Saturday, December 7 at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center against Alma at 3:00 PM.
