ADRIAN, Mich. -- The No. 2 Adrian College Women's ACHA Division 1 hockey team clashed with Concordia University (MI) in a home-and-home CCWHA series to close the fall semester this weekend. The Bulldogs blanked the Cardinals 7-0 on the road and 9-0 at home.
Adrian hit the freeway for a short ride to Ann Arbor for game one on Friday night where they handled their business and opened with a commanding victory.
Ashlynn Stitt,
Makenzie Villiard x2,
Allison Shaw,
Gianna Miranda,
Tess McKerrow, and
Rhea Peterson registered the tallies in the win for Adrian.
Keira Eagleson provided three helpers, while
Neleh Wood added two. Shaw,
Genessie Williams,
Hailey Wiltshire,
Brenna Ward, and
Amelia Smolinski each collected lone assists as well. Between the pipes,
Olivia Towpich stopped every shot she faced for her third win and first career shutout as the Bulldogs out-shot Concordia, 53-10.
The Bulldogs and Cardinals made a quick turnaround and met at the Arrington Ice Arena on Saturday at noon. Adrian continued to pour on the offense in game two, giving the Cardinals no chance to make it close. A six-goal opening frame for the home team essentially put this one in the bag, as Williams notted a first period hat-trick, while Stitt scored twice and
Chloe Gregory added another. Shaw, Gregory, and
Taylor Robinson found the back of the net in the final two periods to seal the deal and collect the dominant weekend sweep, out-shooting the Cardinals again, 51-15. Shaw finished her night with a goal and three assists to lead the effort, along with the Williams hat-trick.
Taylor Kinkade made 15 saves in net for the Bulldogs, earning her third win and third shutout of the season.
The WD1 Bulldogs finish the first semester of play with a 17-3-2 record, along with a 7-0-0 CCWHA conference record. The team will head into a lengthy Christmas break and return to action on Sunday, January 19 at the Arrington Ice Arena when they host the University of Rhode Island at 1:00 PM.
Genessie Williams joined us after the game with her thoughts on the sweep, her impressive performance, and the semester as a whole.
