ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College NCAA women's hockey team bounced back on Sunday afternoon and took down No. 1 UW-River Falls on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs played a strong third period and came away with a 3-1 victory. Sunday's game marked the first loss in 40 games for UW-River Falls.
In the first period, UW-River Falls snuck in a goal to take a 1-0 lead. After a scoreless second period the Bulldogs had work to do in the third. After an Adrian College timeout, the Bulldogs went on to tie the game on a power play with a goal from
Maya Roy. Three minutes later,
Riley Johnson found the back of the net to give Adrian a 2-1 lead. UW-River Falls pulled its goaltender with 1:31 to go in the game allowing
Zoe Lohrei to score an empty net goal to lock up the victory.
Johnson finished the game with two points adding an assist to her goal while
Kathryn Truban picked up a pair of assists.
Annie Gilbert locked down the net for Adrian where she finished the game with 27 saves including 11 in the third period.Â
The Bulldogs will return to action at home on Friday, December 13 when they host MSOE in a two-game NCHA conference series. Puck drop for Friday night is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
