Men's Hockey Handles Concordia Wisconsin in Game One of the Harris Cup Quarterfinals

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team began the NCHA Harris Cup Quarterfinals on Friday afternoon as they hosted the No. 8 seeded Concordia Wisconsin Falcons. The Bulldogs took care of business on Friday coming away with a 10-2 victory.
 
The Bulldogs started the scoring early in the first period on a goal from Jaden Shields. Later in the period, Casey Gerstein scored to extend the lead to 2-0 followed by a goal with a minute to play in the period from Zachary Heintz.
 
In the second period, Heintz scored a quick goal to lead 4-0 and net his second of the game. Shortly after, Ian Amsbaugh made it a 5-0 game with a goal which forced the Falcons to make a change in net. Bradley Somers went on to score for the Bulldogs to lead 6-0. Concordia Wisconsin took advantage of an Adrian turnover and scored to make it 6-1 at the end of the second period.
 
It was an eventful third period where the Bulldogs added four more goals. Somers scored to give Adrian a 7-1 lead which was answered by a goal from Concordia Wisconsin to make it 7-2. Riley Murphy responded to lead 8-2 followed by goals from Mathew Rehding on the power play and Ryan Pitoscia.
 
Dershahn Stewart started in goal for Adrian where he finished the afternoon with 20 saves. Heintz led the Bulldogs with five points on two goals and three assists while Somers finished with four points on two goals and two assists. Rehding, Murphy, and Julien Jacob all had three-point afternoons.
 
The Bulldogs will take on Concordia Wisconsin in game two of the quarterfinals tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM. With a victory tomorrow, Adrian will advance to the NCHA Harris Cup Semifinals next weekend and host the lowest remaining seed.
