ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA women's hockey team began the NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs on Friday night as they hosted the No. 8 seeded Lawrence University Vikings. The Bulldogs took care of business and came away with a 4-1 victory in the opening quarterfinal game.
Adrian jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period.
Karmen Anderson scored the opening goal followed by a goal from
Une Bjelland. Late in the period, Lawrence scored to take a 2-1 score into the first intermission. The first period goal for Lawrence marked the first goal in history against Adrian by a Lawrence player.
After a scoreless second period and a delay to the start of the third due to Zamboni issues, the Bulldogs went on to add a pair of goals in the third.
Maya Roy scored to give Adrian a 3-1 lead. Later in the period, Bjelland netted her second goal of the game on a power play to lock up the 4-1 victory.
Annie Gilbert finished the night with 17 saves in goal for Adrian.
Karmen Anderson and
Maya Roy added an assist to their goals to finish the night with two points each.
Adrian will wrap up the quarterfinal series tomorrow at 5:00 PM. With a victory tomorrow, the Bulldogs will advance to the NCHA Slaats Cup Semifinals and host the lowest remaining seed.
