ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's lacrosse team opened their season up on Wednesday evening against Ohio Northern for a non-conference game. The Bulldogs would lose their home opener to the Polar Bears, 18-4.
The Polar Bears started the game out hot as they would score the first two goals of the game. A
Mariana Miller goal assisted by
Zoe Weber in the first quarter brought the Bulldogs to within one score. The Polar Bears would go on a 5-1 run between the end of the first quarter and all the way until the halftime break. Miller would receive her second yellow car of the game and would unfortunately be unable to return to action halfway through the second quarter. The other goal in the first half for Adrian come from
Lucia Commare with six seconds left in the half. The halftime score would be 7-2 in favor of Ohio Northern. Adrian would commit nine turnovers compared to Ohio Northern's five.
The Bulldogs would struggle to stop the Polar Bear's offense as they would allow seven more goals in the third quarter alone. The Bulldogs would only score one goal in the third quarter from Commare with just under 10 minutes in the quarter. Halfway through the third quarter, Weber would also pick up her second yellow card as she would be unable to return as well for the entirety of the game. In the fourth quarter, Commare would score another unassisted goal for the Bulldogs. Ohio Northern would take home the win by a final score of 18-4. Ohio Northern would total 39 shots to the Bulldogs 17 as the Polar Bears would out battle the Bulldogs in the draw control, 14-12.
To lead the Bulldogs was Commare with three goals on the night. Miller added one goal as Weber added the assist. Commare snagged five ground balls as
Mey Sun would grab four of her own. Sun also led the team with four caused turnovers throughout the game.
Adrian will travel to Madonna University (Mich.) on Wednesday, February 28 at 3 PM for another non-conference matchup!
