ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College Men's NCAA Hockey team hosted St. Norbert College in the NCHA Harris Cup Championship game on Saturday afternoon at the Arrington Ice Arena, but fell short to the Green Knights by a 3-1 score.
The Bulldogs went down early in the first period after the Green Knights opened the scoring five minutes into the game. A scoreless remainder of the first left it at 1-0 in favor of SNC after one.
During the second period, St. Norbert would add another on a power play goal just over three minutes into the middle frame. Adrian would answer back a few minutes later on a high-slot unassisted goal from
Jaden Shields to bring the score to 2-1 for the Green Knights. A few moments later, SNC would find another tally to increase their lead to two goals after two periods of play.
The third period went back and forth with Adrian receiving a couple power play opportunities to try and tie it, but to no avail as the period remained scoreless and the Green Knights mustered a solid defensive effort, clinching the NCHA Harris Cup, their first title since 2019. Shots in the game were 36-25 in favor of the Bulldogs.Â
Dershahn Stewart finished with 22 saves in between the pipes for the home team.
After the conclusion of the game, the NCHA announced the Harris Cup All-Tournament team, with two Bulldogs earning accolades. Seniors, Shields and
Zachary Heintz, were both awarded defenseman and forward spots on the All-Tournament team after their efforts in the NCHA Harris Cup Playoffs.
The Adrian College Men's NCAA Hockey team will now await the NCAA DIII National Championship Tournament selection show, which takes place on Monday, March 4 at 10:00 AM.
