DUBUQUE, IA. – The Adrian College Men's Lacrosse team was on the road today at the University of Dubuque to battle with the Spartans in an afternoon contest. The Bulldogs would come close, but fell to the Spartans, 10-9.
Adrian's
Michael Jonas would open the scoring in the first quarter of play before the Spartans tied it up shortly after. The score would stay knotted at one after the opening frame.
Jonas would score first again for the Bulldogs in the second quarter of play which was quickly followed up by the Spartans to make it 2-2. Adrian's
Derek Hassel would provide the third Adrian tally just a couple of minutes later off a pass from Jonas before the Spartans would tie it again, sending the two teams into half time with a 3-3 tie. Shots at the half were 19-18 in favor of the Bulldogs.
Dubuque would strike first in the third quarter, scoring two goals in the first five minutes of play to go up 5-3, followed by two more unanswered tallies, making it 7-3 after three quarters.
The Spartans would continue to tack on, scoring the first goal of the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs'
Brandon Hoerauf would add one in the final frame to bring the score to 8-4, but it was Dubuque who potted another to make it 9-4. Hoerauf would find twine twice more to bring the score to 9-6 and his season goal total to 12 for his second hat-trick of 2024.
The Spartans would continue to follow up the Adrian push back, scoring one more to make it 10-6 before Hassel added two more of his own for the hat-trick, making it 10-8. Adrian's
Austin Selvage would bring the Bulldogs within one with less than a minute remaining, but the late push back would stop there as Dubuque would hold on for the 10-9 win.
Cameron Reed led the Bulldogs with four ground balls on the day, while Jonas led with eight shot attempts and Hassel led with five shots on goal. Goalkeeper,
Sam Spangler, made ten saves in the loss.
The Adrian College Men's Lacrosse team will return to the field on Saturday, March 30 at Allegheny College. Face off at 1:00 PM.
