NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Adrian College women's lacrosse team competed at North Central College on Wednesday evening. The Bulldogs would battle, but the Cardinals would win, 13-9.
Lucia Commare would score the first goal of the game within in the first two minutes of the first quarter. Three straight goals from the Cardinals would slow down Adrian until
Maggie Bean,
Zoe Weber, and
Mya Reyes would all score a goal within a two-minute span to give the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead. A last second goal in the first quarter from the Cardinals would tie the game at 4 apiece. North Central would be the first team with a goal in the second quarter, but Adrian was quick to answer with three straight goals to give them a two-goal lead in the second quarter.
Emily Crager and
Sarah Gross both scored during that span of goals. Another goal from the Cardinals would close the Adrian lead to 7-6 at the halftime break.
North Central would start the third quarter with a goal and never look back. The Cardinals would score eight straight goals to give them a 13-7 lead with about ten minutes left in the third quarter. Adrian was held scoreless in the third quarter as North Central put up five goals. Crager and Commare would both score goals in the final two minutes of the game to close the gap, but it was not enough as the Cardinals would win, 13-9. Adrian totaled 27 shots compared to North Central's 37.
Commare led with three goals as she grabbed six ground balls and caused two turnovers. Crager would add two goals as
Sarah Gross added one goal and seven ground balls for the Bulldogs. Steffey would be the losing goalie on the night, but would total 22 saves in the four quarters of action.
Adrian will travel to Rochester University on Wednesday, March 13
th at 6:30 PM for their next game!
