ADRIAN, Mich. – The No. 5 Adrian College Women's NCAA hockey team hosted a NCAA Quarterfinal Tournament game at the Arrington Ice Arena on Saturday afternoon against No. 7 Hamilton College. The Bulldogs came out as victors by a 4-1 score, punching their ticket to the Frozen Four.
The Bulldogs and Continentals met in the first round of last year's NCAA Tournament, but it was the Continentals who came out as winners last season, defeating the Bulldogs 2-0 at the Arrington Ice Arena.
Adrian opened the scoring on Saturday with a goal from
Sydnie Crockett and an assist to
Saige Biddle. Adrian would then add another on the power play thanks to
Tia Lascelle from
Une Bjelland and
Maya Roy. Hamilton would answer back with a goal of their own to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Bulldogs after one.
The second period of play was scoreless until the final minutes when Lascelle tipped in a shot from the point by Roy, putting the Bulldogs up by two after two.
Midway through the third period, Lascelle would complete the hat-trick for Adrian making it 4-1. The goal was assisted by Roy and Bjelland. Adrian would hold on to its three-goal lead and secure the victory to advance to the NCAA Frozen Four. Goaltender, Michael O'Brien, made 20 saves in the Bulldog win.
Shots on goal in the game were 33-21 in favor of Adrian.
Karmen Anderson led the Bulldogs with five shots while
Gia Avalone contributed three huge blocks. With today's win over Hamilton, the Bulldogs move on to the NCAA Frozen Four for the third time in program history.
The Adrian College Women's NCAA hockey team advance to take on the No. 1 UW-River Falls Falcons on Friday, March 15 in River Falls, Wisconsin at 7:00 PM CST/8:00 PM EST.
