ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College Men's Lacrosse team battled the Thunder of Trine University on Saturday night at Docking Stadium, overpowering the visitors by a 14-5 score thanks to explosive offensive efforts from
Austin Selvage,
Riley Edwards, and
Michael Jonas.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring on Saturday on a goal from Jonas assisted by
Derek Hassel. The home team followed it up with a tally from Selvage to go up 2-0 after one.
Jake Coakley would score the first goal of the second quarter, this time while a man up, before Trine responded with two goals of their own to bring the score to 3-2. The Bulldogs registered four more goals in the second quarter to go up 7-2 at half time. Selvage, Jonas and two from Edwards closed out the first half scoring.
Adrian opened the second half with an explosive start, scoring five unanswered goals to go up 12-2. Selvage added two while Jonas, Edwards, and
Cameron Reed added the others. Trine found twine twice more before the end of the third quarter, making the score 12-4 at the end of three.
Jack Messel and
Alec Winegar closed out the Adrian offensive strike with two more goals before Trine added one near the end to finish the game 14-5.
Hassel finished the night with three assists, while Jonas registered three and three, Selvage finished with four and one, and Edwards closed out the night with a hat-trick. Reed wrapped up the contest with a goal and an assist along with eleven ground balls and three caused turnovers to lead his team.
Tyler Ristau also collected three caused turnovers on the night, while Selvage led the Bulldogs in shot attempts with eleven and seven on goal.
Adrian netminder,
Sam Spangler, was terrific in goal for his team, making ten saves to earn his seventh win of the campaign.
The Bulldogs will next travel to Alma College this coming Tuesday to take on the Scots at 4:00 PM.
