ALMA, Mich. – The Adrian College Men's Lacrosse team battled the Alma Scots on Tuesday afternoon at Alma in a MIAA conference match-up. The Bulldogs caught flames as they exploded for 23 goals to defeat the Scots by a 23-2 score, securing their third win in a row.
The Bulldogs registered nine goals from eight different players in the opening frame to Alma's zero.
Michael Jonas scored twice while
Cameron Reed,
Brandon Hoerauf,
Derek Hassel,
Austin Selvage,
Jake Coakley,
Tyler Ristau, and
Riley Edwards also found the score sheet in quarter one.
Adrian tagged on ten more in the second frame to Alma's one, making the score 19-1 at half time. Selvage would add three in the second quarter and Jonas, Hoerauf, Edwards,
Alec Winegar x2,
Mark Picano, and
Bradyn Parrott (first college goal) would round out the first half scoring for the Bulldogs.
Michael Camacho would open the scoring with his first of the season while a man-up for the Bulldogs in the second half, before Alma responded with another goal of their own. Edwards added one for Adrian late in the third quarter, making it 21-2 after three quarters of play.
In the fourth and final frame, Adrian's Parrott found the back of the net for his second of the game, followed by
Jason Klein who scored Adrian's 23
rd goal of the day.
Selvage ended the night with four goals for his second straight four-goal performance. Jonas finished Tuesday with nine points, bringing his season total to 62. Hassel added four assists to wrap up the contest with five points, while Edwards finished with his second hat-trick in as many games. Fresh off a MIAA Player of the Week honor, Reed led the Bulldogs with twelve ground balls on Tuesday, marking his third straight contest with at least ten GB's. He also finished with three caused turnovers, good enough to lead his team.
All three Adrian goalkeepers saw action on Tuesday.
Sam Spangler played fifteen minutes, making three saves and allowing one goal, while freshman
Andrew Buss logged sixteen minutes of action making one save. Sophomore
Owen Smith also stood between the pipes, leading the Bulldogs with 29 minutes played, stopping one shot, and giving up one goal.
With Tuesday's win, the Bulldogs improve to 8-6 on the season and 3-2 in conference play. Adrian's men's lacrosse team will close its regular season this Saturday, April 27 at 7:00 PM at Docking Stadium as they host the Albion College Britons.
