ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's lacrosse team hosted Albion College on Saturday night in the regular season finale. The Bulldogs fell in a big hole in the first half trailing 12-1, but came out strong and aggressive in the second half and sparked a comeback. Unfortunately, the rally came up short and Albion went on to defeat the Bulldogs 13-9. Adrian finishes the regular season with an 8-7 record and finish 3-3 in conference play.
Albion led 5-0 at the end of the first quarter before scoring the first five goals of the second quarter.
Cameron Reed put Adrian on the board with two minutes to go in the half to make it 10-1. Albion responded with a pair of late second half goals to lead 12-1 at the break.
Adrian came out of the locker room with energy and scored the first goal of the half from
Alec Winegar just over a minute into play on a man-up opportunity.
Austin Selvage scored a pair of third quarter goals while
Riley Edwards and
Jack Messel each found the back of the net. The Bulldogs held Albion scoreless in the third quarter bringing the score to 12-6 entering the final 15 minutes of play.Â
The Bulldogs continued the comeback in the fourth as
Brandon Hoerauf scored to make it 12-7. Winegar went on to score his second goal of the game followed by a goal from
Tyler Ristau with 3:36 to go to make it a three-goal game. Albion took over possession late in the game and wasted clock forcing the Bulldogs to provide pressure and pull the goalie out of the net. With 42 seconds to go in the game, Albion found a hole and scored an empty net goal to win, 13-9.
Selvage and Winegar led the scoring for Adrian with two goals apiece while
Michael Jonas recorded three assists on the night. On defense, Hoerauf and
AJ Hayes each forced three turnovers.
Steven Martin won 15 faceoffs and scooped up nine ground balls while Selvage finished the day with six ground balls followed by Reed with four.
Sam Spangler earned the start in goal for the Bulldogs where he recorded 15 saves.
Adrian's season will continue as they locked up the No. 4 seed for the MIAA Tournament and will travel to Hope College on Wednesday, May 1 for the semifinal round against the MIAA Regular Season Champions, the Hope Flying Dutchmen.
