ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College Athletics Department is proud to announce the 2024 recipients of the Frank and Shirley Dick Award, for both male and female athletics.
Rylea Mougrabi of Women's Soccer and
Matteo DiGiulio of Men's ACHA Division 1 Hockey were chosen as this year's recipients, recognizing their academic success, involvement in extracurricular activities, and commitment to the Adrian community and volunteering their time during their respective tenures as Adrian College Bulldogs.
The Frank and Shirley Dick Award began in 2011 and is given to a male and female student-athlete that has succeeded in academics while also being involved in extracurricular activities and community service. Coaches and Athletic Department staff nominate Adrian College student-athletes based on the criteria of academics, leadership, and community service. The Frank and Shirley Dick Award is voted on by the Faculty Athletic Representatives (FAR). In some cases, athletic achievements are used to settle any tie breakers.
Rylea Mougrabi is from Pinckney, Michigan and came to Adrian College in 2021. Rylea was a double major in Criminal Justice and Spanish and graduated as an honor roll student with a 3.9 GPA this past spring. Her excellence in the classroom resulted in her presence on the Dean's List for all six of her Adrian College semesters. In addition, Mougrabi presented on Ribbons of Excellence Day and was a Mahan Manuscript Nominee in 2022. After her final academic year, she was also nominated for the Alumni Outstanding Senior Award and was the winner of the Sociology and Criminal Justice Department Leadership Award. For two years, Mougrabi was also the soccer team's SAAC representative and a member of the Mortarboard National Senior Honor Society. She also spent her three years as part of the Adrian College Honors program and in May of 2024, she was the Baccalaureate Service Speaker ahead of the 2024 Spring Commencement. Mougrabi and the Adrian College Women's Soccer team are key contributors to the Special Olympics program at Adrian, volunteering their time and sharing knowledge to foster team work, communication, and friendship through sport participation. Mougrabi had been the President of the Special Olympics program for the last two academic years, organizing and setting up multi-school fundraising events with Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan. Mougrabi's selection is the fourth time a member of the Women's Soccer team has been granted the Frank and Shirley Dick Award.
